Yahoo Sponsored Search Still a Great Value
Now that the Yahoo Microsoft merger is kaput, it is time to look forward to the future of Yahoo, and I have to say that I think that it is bright.

Yahoo Sponsored Search is a good application, delivers clicks and conversions and is a great place for some to start out with a pay per click campaign. With prices lower than Google AdWords, a very user friendly interface, and the ability to see what top bids are for your keywords, Yahoo Sponsored Search is a great value.

The reality is however that you will get one half the clicks and one half the conversions that you will on Google AdWords, but for some this is satisfactory and a great place to start especially if you are managing your own pay per click campaign.

I for one and still expecting great things for Yahoo and know that this merger threat will help to strengthen them as they move forward. So Yahoo, it's time to get back to business!

Is It To Be GoogleY! or Yoogle!
Google is testing running AdWords ads on Yahoo! of all places!

In this limited test; on 3% of Yahoo searches for a three week period, Google will be showing Google AdWords ads on Yahoo. Yahoo will receive a percentage of fees in an effort to fight off the pending hostile takeover from Microsoft.

You need to read my post at Blog-World Watch on this important test that does not bode well for advertising on the Web in generalhttp://blog.mccordweb.com/2008/04/ppc-yahoo-google-test.html.

Yahoo The Pay Per Click Contender to AdWords
Read our post at Blog-World Watch about why you should consider advertising on Yahoo Sponsored Search. We've found that you can expect about 1/2 of the conversions that you are currently getting with AdWords on Yahoo, but you will pay less per click.

  Yahoo Devalues Publisher Content Clicks
I have a love hate relationship with the content networks on the various pay per click vehicles. I love content for helping to establish a new brand or give company identity. But I hate to pay a lot for clicks in content because they typically do not convert at a high rate.

So it is good news for me that Yahoo Sponsored Search has decided to change the way that it prices clicks in content. Now Yahoo will assign a value to a website for content clicks based on conversion rates. This may actually end up giving content a good name, well eventually.

What Yahoo has done has assigned a cost per click value to content on a site by site basis. This is bad news for Yahoo Publishers, but good news for advertisers. Why pay the same amount per click in content for JoeBlow.com versus WebMD.com?

Over time this may change the way that I personally feel about enabling content in a program, but for now, I consider it good news, but I am not ready to turn content on again just yet.

  Quality Changes 2-5-07 For Yahoo
On 2-5-07 Yahoo Sponsored Search is implementing a "quality-score" like change for determining ad placement on the page. Yahoo had announced this pending change as it rolled out its new advertising interface and now the day is upon us.

For some advertisers this is terrible news. For other advertisers great news as now the bidding wars will cease. We have found that clicks on Yahoo are position sensitive. You will get more clicks if you are in the top three ads. Now that the way you get to the top has changed, this could impact significantly some accounts performance.

Personally I feel that all the changes that Yahoo has been making have been improving their quality, dependability, and instilling my confidence in their product. I welcome the change as a way to help Yahoo become a more viable alternative to Google Search and to Google AdWords.
